THE JOURNEY

How We Began

Lila Limon, the visionary behind Squeeze De Citron®, serves as both the founder and creative director of this vibrant line of handcrafted bags and totes, skillfully brought to life by Mexican artisans.

Nestled in the picturesque Old Greenwich, CT, she passionately curates all in-house designs, infusing each creation with her unique touch and creative flair. Her journey began in Mexico City where she was born and raised. Lila has always had a vast fascination with the world of color since she was little. As a teen, she had a wide range collection of Care Bears and Lip Smackers. Who would have thought that one day it would translate to Squeeze De Citron®?

Following her graduation with a Bachelor of Business in Mexico City, Lila's educational journey took an exciting turn as she pursued further studies at The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, specializing in Fashion Merchandise Management. This pivotal chapter unfolded with enriching experiences, including a coveted internship at Krupp Group, where she immersed herself in the dynamic world of fashion public relations. She attended Fashion Week for seven consecutive years, learning from brands such as Lela Rose, Vince Camuto, Chris Venz, Honor, Casadei, and others, as well as celebrity branding.

In 2015, the Squeeze De Citron® brand made its formal debut after Lila hosted many home nonprofit events to raise money for children’s causes. She started by presenting small collections of totes with her designs at these events, and attendees started requesting them. After selling more than 500 bags and seeing the demand of her beloved community had for these bags, at the time in Windermere, FL, she thought it was the perfect time to start a business.

ORIGIN

Our History

Lila realized there was a niche in the market for accessories that bring joy and happiness through intense colors, and interesting patterns! Handmade, by Mexican and Guatemalan artisans, much of the Core, the Capsule, and the Lemon Drop Collections are made of 100% recycled plastic. Not only is the company supporting artisan communities, but it is actively supporting the health of our planet too.

Squeeze De Citron® bags represent the work of talented Mexican and Guatemalan artisans. It takes full dedication and cultural talent to create these lifestyle bags. Each core bag takes an entire week to create, with an additional 3 days dedicated to creating the handles.

Our creative director and owner proudly represents her country with these traditional farmer market bags that were birthed in the town of Oaxaca, Mexico. The product itself highlights the beauty of the Mexican country, with its design and texture representing the intensive labor of the Mexican artisans.

Squeeze De Citron®, or “Squeeze the Lemon”, is based on the principle of taking advantage of every fresh, juicy drop a lemon has to offer — celebrating a zest for life and adventure.
